It was a completely spontaneous getaway.
“Maybe we should go to Miami tomorrow!”
“Yeah! Maybe we should!”
“Let’s do it!”
“Okay, I”ll look on AmericanForcesTravel.com (a Priceline company for military members) to find a hotel!”
Less than 24 hours later, we were on our way. We were already in Orlando so it only took about four hours to get there.
After checking into the iconic Fontainebleau Hotel around 9 p.m., we decided to meander down to South Beach. (The hotel checked our temp upon arrival and required masks in all common areas.) We dropped off our bags then walked three and a half miles to find these gargantuan frozen drinks. I’m happy to report we only drank half, then Ubered back to the hotel because there’s no way my sandaled feet were going to tolerate another three and a half mile walk.
The next morning, we were up early enough to catch a breathtaking Miami sunrise. Clouds prevented us from seeing the sun come up over the horizon, but the view was stunning nonetheless. This CAT happened by, smoothing out the sand, and I loved the pic I caught of it as it passed.
I’d been trying to catch a Florida sunrise all year, and finally on my fourth attempt, I was lucky enough to be up early and have (mostly) cooperative weather.
After watching the sunrise, the pool was open and begging us to take a dip. We didn’t want to be rude, so we obliged and spent an hour before it was time to head back to Orlando.
At 9 a.m. it was time to head back. As we were waiting for our car to head back north, we caught a daytime glimpse of this Lambo we’d seen the night before. I’m not much of a car person, but WOW. The color of this one suited it perfectly. I couldn’t believe how many luxury cars we saw in such a short span of time. 😍 i’ve never been much on keeping up with the Joneses, but I’ll admit I did have a Jones moment with this one.
It was definitely worth the effort and expense. Hotels are much more affordable right now as many are more hesitant to travel and hotels are struggling to get enough guests. It’s a great time to get away if time, finances, and personal safety convictions permit (we had our masks with us the entire time.)
